Samsung launches new foldable smartphones set to debut on August 10 ‘Unpacked’ event

Samsung today shared the official teaser video for its upcoming ‘Unpacked’ event that will see the debut of the next generation of foldable smartphones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The Unpacked event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 10 at 9:00 AM ET, and Samsung is already making reservations on unannounced smartphones yet. “Discover how the next Galaxy is bigger than phones now, and get ready to reveal your world of even greater experiences at Samsung Unpacked,” reads the event slogan teasing the new devices.

Rumors suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have an updated design with a single hinge design instead of the dual hinges of the previous generation of Samsung’s foldable phones. The new hinge will be smaller for a thinner and lighter design, and the smartphone will continue to fold like a book.

The Z Fold 4 is expected to continue displaying a 7.6-inch internal display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and it could have a fingerprint sensor under the display instead of a fingerprint sensor on the right side of the device. The upgraded cameras come, including a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, a 50MP wide-angle camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The Galaxy Fold 3 is priced at $1,800, and display analyst Ross Young says the Fold 4 could get a small price cut.

As for the Galaxy Z Flip 4, it will continue to feature a 6.7-inch screen that folds vertically, but according to Young, it will have a larger 2-inch display. Not much is known about the Z Flip 4, but improvements to the camera are possible, as well as battery life improvements and new color options. Both new phones are expected to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus chipset.
