Linux Mint 21 “Vanessa” has been developed over the past five months and is the new main series of Linux Mint after Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana”Ships with a brand new Ubuntu base powered by Linux Kernel 5.15 LTS Derived from Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)and subsidized for the next five years, until 2027.
Linux Mint 21 comes in three flavors, with Cinnamon 5.4And the Xfce 4.16.0 UpdateAnd the Matte 1.26.1 desktop environments. All three flavors include the same under-the-hood enhancements, plus Bluetooth enhancements with Certification Blueman 2.3 GTK + Bluetooth Manager As an alternative to the Blueberry Bluetooth Configuration Tool, it promises better connectivity for headphones and audio profiles.
Also in all three flavors is a new Xapp project called xapp-thumbnailers, which provides thumbnail support in the file manager for AppImage binaries, ePUB files, MP3 album covers, RAW images, and WebP images.
The same goes for Sticky Notes, which now features support for repeating notes and other minor improvements. Furthermore, Linux Mint 21 comes with a new process monitor widget in the system tray that detects automatic updates and system snapshots running in the background.
Most Linux Mint applications have received various improvements in Linux Mint 21. For example, Xviewer image viewer now features WebP image support and offers better directory browsing, WebApp manager now supports additional browsers and custom browser parameters, Timeshift Backup and Restore Tool is now official as XApp The case with the Linux Mint team.
Other than that, the new Linux Mint version brings more improvements in printing and scanning with IPP and HPLIP (Both installed by default), initial GTK4 support for Mint-Y and Mint-X themes, support for Mint-X theme dark mode apps, and a bunch of new wallpapers.
But wait, that’s not all because Linux Mint 21 also guarantees dual boot detection out of the box for those who want to install an Ubuntu-based distribution alongside Windows or another GNU/Linux distribution, and remove the systemd-oom component to boost performance, improve Application management, improved support for NVIDIA GPUs.
