According to Most Valuable Promotions, Abdul Rahman did not maintain his weight in an honest manner and requested multiple times to switch the bout to a heavier weight class. The boxing scene was the first to break the news on Saturday.
“MVP and Jake Paul will not reward anyone who has acted dishonestly and calculated,” a press release said on Saturday.
The cancellation comes one week before the match is scheduled at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The promotion claimed that Abd al-Rahman had originally agreed to a 200-pound cruiser weight bout and submitted evidence to the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) that he weighed 216 pounds on July 7.
“In the past 48 hours, it has become apparent that these assurances were not made in good faith,” the campaign said.
She added that Abdel Rahman had only lost one pound since his weight on July 7. The promotion offered a new contract weight of 205 pounds, but decided to cancel the match after Rahman’s camp demanded 215 pounds, the best player claims. At that point, the match and the event as a whole were cancelled. Tickets and pay-per-view purchases will be refunded.
“The forced outcome affects Jake Paul, Amanda Serrano and every other fighter on this card who have trained tirelessly for the past few months for this event,” the statement read. “The boxing community must hold Hashim Rahman Jr. responsible for his lack of professionalism. Endless work, time and money has been devoted to building this event and we want to thank our team, Showtime, Madison Square Garden, Holden Boxing and all our partners for their continued support. Above all we want to thank our fans for Their commitment to athletes and the sport of boxing.”

Shortly after news of the cancellation, Paul expressed his disappointment in a tweet.
Paul wrote: “At first Tommy fumbled and now Hashem Rahman has collapsed.” “These boxers are the toughest people to work with and consistently lack the professionalism and confidence of my fighters. I apologize to all the other fighters on the card, our partners, our team, and the fans.”
First Tommy flopped and now Hashem Rahman collapsed. These boxers are the toughest people to work with and they constantly lack the professionalism and confidence of my fighters.

“Tommy Fumbled,” is a reference to Tommy Fury, whose opponent was originally scheduled for August 6. Fury twice withdrew from matches with Paul.
