Well well well. See who he is. It’s our old
Friend Jose Mourinho, coach. Tottenham Hotspur are in Israel, the Holy Land, to face Roma in what’s being described as a friendly match but, let’s face it, it probably wouldn’t be very appropriate.
There’s a whole lot of narrative in play here, not just because Jose is still so salty that he (rightfully) was sacked by Tottenham six days before the cup final. Spurs are also apparently interested in Roma attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo in the remainder of the transfer window. And then there’s today’s match site, which has hijacked all sorts of Jimmy.
But in the end, we are here for football and that is what we will focus on. This is Tottenham’s last adjustment before the start of the Premier League season against Southampton on August 6. While Conte might throw in a curve ball with his team selection, I feel the lineup he puts up to start this match is going to be the one he’ll use as the Saints walk out to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Ben Davies is back, and that’s awesome. Ole Skip is out, and that’s less so – he has a foot injury he sustained in training that apparently required stitches but isn’t supposed to stay away. Tanguy Ndombele, Gio Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks have all returned to London.
I can’t wait to see what kind of veiled and non-veiled comments Jose made before and after this match, especially since Jose and Conte have…let’s call it a relationship less than fellowship in the past. I expect an abundant amount of shade.
Today’s match will be broadcast on SpursPLAY, Tottenham’s premium live streaming service (£45 per year). I was told that a replay of this match will be broadcast on CBS Sports Sunday evening at 10:30 PM ET for Americans reading this blog.
Update: For US viewers, today’s match may be broadcast on Paramount+. It’s hard to tell – the preview says it restarts at 6:05PM ET, but tap it and it says streaming starts at 2:05PM ET. So don’t take this as gospel.
Note: Please don’t post links to illegal streams in the comments or suggest where people can find them. Illegal streams are bad and cause us problems. Violators and nuclear comments will be banned.
