Microsoft faces backlash for ‘Minecraft’

In 2021 alone, the mobile version of the popular video game “Minecraft” generated $160.7 million in global in-app purchase revenue. This represents an increase of 12.68% over the previous year. It’s interesting that the video game is on the rise despite its age – in part due to its acquisition by Microsoft (MSFT) – Get a Microsoft report in 2014 for $2.5 billion.

Recently, a new update for the game called 1.19.1 was released with a bunch of new features aimed at improving it. But the ad immediately met with backlash, with a flood of tweets expressing Microsoft’s distaste. This leaves players and fans in a state of uncertainty about the future of the beloved game.
