ICC T20 World Cup 2022: There will be failures sometimes, and the outcome may not be in your favor

India captain Rohit Sharma has admitted that the team is likely to see setbacks at times with their current approach to the game. Rohit also mentioned that they have not yet considered a few locations for the T20 World Cup, which is less than three months away.

India has not lost the T20I series since Rohit Sharma took the helm after being knocked out in the group stage at last year’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

There will sometimes be failures with the brand of cricket we currently play: Rohit Sharma

Rohit backed the individual and team plans, stating that failures would be part of the high stakes game plan in a new batch of cricket en route to the mega event Down Under.

“That’s why I repeat, people outside the scene have to be calm and silent. The brand of cricket we’re playing right now, there will be failures sometimes, and the results may not be in their favour, but that’s totally fine, that’s no problem, because we’re trying to learn something with it. ,” Rohit told Vimal Kumar in a video uploaded to the latter’s YouTube channel.

“We try to do something different, so there may be cases where we make mistakes, but that doesn’t mean the players or the team are bad,” he added.

Despite its dominance in the duo series both at home and abroad, India has been eluded by the ICC Cup. India reached one final (Champions Cup 2017) and three semi-finals – 2015 and 2019 World Cup; T20 World Cup 2016.

India lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in the latest edition of the T20 World Championships, and those defeats led to their exit from the knockout qualifying stage.

We haven’t won any World Cups, but that doesn’t mean we’ve done poorly in the past few years. I do not agree that we were playing conservative cricket. “You lose two World Cup matches and suddenly there is talk of the team trying something else,” Rohit said.

“If you look at the total matches we played, which led to the World Cup, we won about 80 percent of our matches,” he added.

We still have to fill in some points before the T20 World Cup: Rohit Sharma

The Indian team experimented with 29 players in 19 T20 under Rahul Dravid as head coach after the 2021 T20 WC. Rohit said team management still needed time to think about some roles.

You need to change over time, we are trying to change too, so people outside also need to change their thinking. We still have to fill some points in the team before the T20 World Cup, and we also know what needs to be done to fill those places. So, we are trying, with all these matches being played to address these matters,” the Indian captain said.

India swept the West Indies 3-0 in the ODI series and they are set to start the T20I series with Rohit, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya returning from a short break. The first T20I will start on Friday (July 29) at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
