15 High Quality Dividends You Can Buy For Sale Now

John Buckingham, editor of the Prudent Speculator newsletter, paraphrases Warren Buffett when he says “Whether it’s socks or stocks, we like to buy low-quality goods.”

2022 is the year that offered attractive buying opportunities.

Pouring money into stocks during a bull market means that you are buying at a high price. But if you’ve been building a nest egg over decades, lower prices will give you a better return.

Buckingham examined 15 dividend stocks, starting with the stocks that passed the value criteria to be included in Prudent Speculator’s core strategy. They are listed below.

The Prudent Speculator is published by the Kovitz Investment Group of Chicago and tops the 30-year return list among newsletters tracked by Hulbert Financial Digest. The average annual return for the 30-year TPS portfolio is 14.5% as of June 30, compared to 9.9% for the S&P 500 SPX.And the
With profits reinvested monthly, according to Hulbert.

The Prudent Speculator portfolio includes 80 stocks identified as long-term investments, drawn from an initial pool of nearly 3,000 publicly listed US companies. Buckingham and colleagues narrowed the list to identify names that are highly liquid and “potentially undervalued” for the market. They then subject the companies to a number of proprietary quality screens.

Buckingham said making good choices was an important part of the success of the TPS approach, but also said “we are superior contributors”, to underscore the importance of staying committed for the long term. Investors should expect the market to make significant declines fairly frequently. These benefits can provide if you put the money to work. But it’s important not to try to time a market downturn – the trend is for investors to come back after the market has started to recover, so timing efforts tend to degrade long-term performance.

This chart, provided by Buckingham, shows how the movement of investors in and out of funds has hurt their performance, compared to the broader market:

“Creative” dividend screen

Buckingham listed 15 stocks that passed the TPS Screens and also met the following criteria:

  • Dividend yield greater than 3.0%. “Yes, interest rates have jumped this year, but for those who share our three- to five-year time horizon or longer, I think dividend-paying stocks remain very attractive versus bond alternatives for those seeking income from their portfolios,” Buckingham wrote. In an email..

  • The year-to-date price has changed by more than 22%. “[W]I think each of these names has a great potential for capital appreciation as well as the income component, with a good deal of bad news already priced in. In short, the upside from the current lows, we think, is significant, and the business is offset by the risk of further economic weakness in the near term,” Buckingham wrote.

  • Analyst estimates the P/E consensus for the next 12 months at a level below the current 14.0 P/E of the Russell 3000 Value Index.. Not only are these names cheaper on a forward P/E basis than the broad stock value benchmark, they have a higher dividend yield than the XX:RAV for the Russell 3000 Value Index.
    The dividend yield is 2.3%.
