Trade Rumors About Kevin Durant: Celtics Emerge As Threat After Jaylen Brown Package Show, Per Report

When Kevin Durant requested a deal from the Brooklyn Nets and his list of favorite destinations surfaced, the Boston Celtics wasn’t considered among the potential landing sites. But they always make sense as a potential destination… if they’re willing to part with Jaylen Brown. This was significant, but the Celtics already seem to be moving in the direction of what could be a solid trade for Durant.

And the Celtics emerged as a “real threat to takeover Durant” after it offered a deal to the Nets, who rejected the offer and demanded more, according to Shams Charanieh.

From Charania:

Sources said the Celtics have offered Brown and goalkeeper Derek White a recruiting selection for the Nets in favor of Durant. Those sources added that the proposal was rejected, and Brooklyn asked Boston – in any proposal – to include Brown, defensive player of the year Marcus Smart, and pick another player and possibly another rotation player. For now, the Celtics aren’t inclined to include Smart alongside many other players or select assets, but the franchise is considering next steps on how to handle the discussions.

As of now, the Celtics have emerged as a serious prospect as a landing point for Durant. They have a great interest in bringing it to their side and consider it a piece that can cross that last hurdle. Although there is work to be done, there is a deal to be made that is enough for the Nets’ overwhelming demand.

Although Durant is one of the best players in the world, you can understand Boston’s reluctance to add more to a show that already includes all-stars in brown. Including Smart in an outgoing package will remove elite defenders from the defense that just led the Celtics to the NBA Finals. However, it is clear that Boston’s acquisition of Malcolm Brogdon makes Smart more consumable.

Acquiring Durant will put the Celtics on a title or bust watch. With Brown, turning 26 in October, and budding nominee MVP Jason Tatum, only 24, the schedule for Boston to compete for titles and hope to win them is basically open. On the other hand, Durant will be 34 years old when the season begins.

Brown added to the speculation a few hours after Charania’s report, simply tweeting “allowed.”

Once again, Durant is still at the top of his game, and we’re seeing stars like LeBron James and Chris Paul extend their initial periods long beyond the realistic boundaries of the past. However, the 25-year-old All-Star player with All-NBA potential for the next half-decade, as well as Defensive Player of the Year, traded Plus The stock futures project, is the definition of pushing all your chips to the middle.

This will always give you pause. We’ll see if the Celtics are willing to walk away on Brooklyn terms. But the train is at least starting to move in that direction. The inclusion of Brown in the show was a huge hurdle for the Celtics. If it did, then presumably many Boston fans – despite Durant’s greatness – would be unsure, if not unhappy, about the deal.

Once again, the Brown-Tatum Championship window will open for longer, and the defense would suffer greatly without Brown and Smart, not to mention Derek White out as well. But in the end, this is Kevin Durant we’re talking about. It would take a huge package to get it, and Boston has the parts to make it happen. stay tuned
