John Mitchie III, the wide receiver from the Houston Texans, announced Sunday that he has been diagnosed with APL (acute promyelocytic leukemia) and is likely to miss the 2022 season as he focuses on his recovery.

“Recently, I was diagnosed with APL (acute promyelocytic leukemia), which is the most curable form of leukemia,” Michi’s statement read. “I am currently receiving great medical care and am in good spirits, anticipating a later recovery. As a result of this diagnosis, I will likely not be playing football this season. My main focus will be on my health and my recovery. Thank you in advance for your support and good wishes. Barrett’s appointment comes after the NFL passed a new ruling in March requiring teams to appoint a minority coach as an offensive assistant. The new rule, drawn from the league’s new Diversity Advisory Committee, is set to improve the NFL’s diverse hiring practices.
