The Mets’ offense couldn’t have anything of it last night as the Mets lost their series opening game to Padres 4-1.

Right before the match though, the Mets made their first big deal, getting David Vogelbach from Pirates. Mets DH’s situation this season has been miserable against the right pitcher which is where Vogelbach excels. Blake Snell, who is promoting Padres tonight, is left-handed. Tomorrow night’s start is correct though!

Chris Bassett will make his 18th start to the season tonight. During his 102 innings in the first half of the season, Bassett posted a 3.79 ERA, 3.83 FIP, 1.137 WHIP and 106 ERA+. In his last five starts and 33 2/3 innings, he has a 2.41 ERA and 2.94 FIP from 25 hits, nine runs while hitting 30 hitters. He knocked out a big game against the Braves as he set them up for one round over six innings in a match the Mets won 7-6.

His start against Padres this season has been so terrible, Bassett may have been eager for revenge. He allowed seven runs of eight strokes and walked twice within 3 1/3 innings. The Padres have the following numbers in their career against Bassitt:

On his last start before the All-Star break, he took a step back allowing five four-strokes and six walks over 3 and 2/3 innings in Colorado.

Snell faced the Mets again on June 6 and allowed five runs, four earned, from seven hits and three walks over four innings. The Mets have the following career numbers against him:
