The Kansas City Chiefs took to the training ground at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph on Saturday morning, conducting their first training session for the team’s 2022 training camp.
Saturday’s practice was restricted to rookies, intermediates and a number of sophomores who reported to camp on Friday afternoon. There will be a total of three such practices – the other two on Sunday and Monday morning – before the rest of the team reports on Monday afternoon. The first full practice will take place on Wednesday morning.
Earlier, we released a list of the participants, along with some injury notes from Kansas City coach Andy Reed.
Arrowhead Pride Editor in Chief Pete Sweeney was there, and made a number of notes from the two-hour session – Including a reminder of the most important fact.
The first—and most important—note to camp is always: QB Patrick Mahomes was already there. Mahomes was joined by a full QB room made up of Chad Henne, Shane Buechele and Dustin Crum for the initial training day.

But without a whole bunch of players out there, the team It was limited to exercises.
The light slate means 7-on-7 for this part of the job, and RB Isiah Pacheco doesn’t mind.
He said, “7-on-7 helps you because whenever there is a player dropping the ball on the court, you finish. That’s what matters — to finish the game. Go find that guy with the ball and go follow him,” he said.

Pete was able to He confirmed that the team’s wide receiver in round two was already ready to go.
On Friday I reported that WR Skyy Moore said it was “complete work” and 100%. On Saturday, he showed off the sleeveless thigh compression he’d been wearing during the OTAs. It’s emphasized… just fine.

mor Make the most of his time.
Moore caught two of Mahomes’ first three completions through 7 on 7. In total, Mahomes completed a pass to six different receivers on Saturday, which, even in light slate business, probably fits with the theme of what’s to come in 2022.

The rookie player widely admired the coach with his work.
Andy Reed liked what he saw at Moore on Saturday: “He looked smooth here…strong. His leg seemed to be well raised. He has those big legs – different from a lot of receivers. It’s like running with his hind legs. But it was smooth.” Good hands…handling it easily.”

Going out of season, it was fair to ask “Cornell who?” But on Saturday, the fifth round of the fifth round in 2021 I managed to catch Pete’s attention.
I thought WR Cornell Powell probably looks his best in a long time, with a total of four receptions during 7-on-7. The big camp of Powell, who needs to keep up with it once the veterans arrive to prove what we expect as the only two winning reception spots.

It also looked like a wide receiver in 2021 turned into a narrow end He has fully recovered from his injury at the start of the season.
TE Jody Fortson overcame an early relegation to score consecutive runs in the red zone of Mahomes later in practice. He probably got a third show from QB Chad Henne in a few plays later. Pacheco got a short hit from Henne in the 7-on-7 red zone.

In defense, the safety of the rookie Make an individual presentation.…and a comment that his coaches might want to pin it to a bulletin board in the dining hall.
In defense, S Bryan Cook forced TE Matt Bushman to falter shortly after picking up a pass from Mahomes. “We always hit the ball,” he said. “We saw an opportunity.”
Cook added that he wished he was able to acquire it but is happy to practice good habits.

Cook wasn’t the only defender Attracted Pete.
Notable defensive players from Saturday: CB Trent McDuffie, who had a passing breakup (PBU) and DB Nazeeh Johnson, who had a PBU and nearly intercepted the Mahomes.
