Waiver of claim Michael Amadeo presented the Golden Knights with the lowest sixth score

Welcome to the Vegas Season Hockey Now in our review series where we look at every player in the Vegas Golden Knights and the 2021-22 season from Michael Amadeo to Zach Whitecloud.

Today’s player is Michael Amadeo. Let’s jump right into things.

general ideas

Michael “Ammo” Amadeo got exemptions from the Toronto Maple Leafs early in the season. He came to the Golden Knights at a time when he missed many strikers due to injury, but he has since established himself as a solid striker in the bottom six of a healthy squad.

He scored 11 goals in 2021-22 which is respectful of a waiver claim. As the Golden Knights got more injured later in the season, Amadeo rose to the top six. In January, General Manager Kelly McCremon signed Amadeo to a two-year extension with AAV worth $762,500.

Highlights

Amadeo wasn’t the Golden Knights’ highlighting machine as he scored 11 goals that were mostly dirty goals. Nothing wrong with that, they don’t ask how, they ask how much. His skill set is that of a Six-Down Wing. He’s not a top six, but he did get some stints with William Carlson and Jonathan Marchesault late in the season when he was Riley Smith and co. He was not hurt.

Against the Anaheim Ducks on March 4, Amadeo scored a goal and two passes and then followed up in front of the Senators with a solid performance. I know you all remember that game because it was a Jack Eichel buzzer-beater.

What’s Next

At 26, Amadeo is still young and has the potential to be the sixth lowest man in VGK. With the current maximalist crisis for the Golden Knight, he would be a valuable asset as a player who scores goals and occupies a space under a million dollars.

As Riley Smith and Mathias Janmark prepare to become free agents, Amadeo’s role could increase as well. The Golden Knights have a few prospects ready for the NHL as well, which means Amadeo’s place in the squad is secure.

Amadeo has missed 26 games with the Golden Knights this season but there have been no serious injuries. He was on a different team for the first nine games of the season, was a healthy scratcher at times and, like many members of the Golden Knights, battled his COVID battles. He should be healthy for 2022-23.
