Travelers Championship 2022: Picks, predictions, field, favorites and odds: Top golf experts say again Rory McIlroy

The third major season of the PGA Tour season is in the books, and the race is just right on the horizon as many of the best golfers prepare to play in the 2022 Travellers’ Tournament. The short trip to TBC River Highlands near Hartford, Connecticut, brought many players from the U.S. Championships. United Open, which was played last week in Brooklyn, Massachusetts. Five of the world’s 11 best golfers, including top-ranked Scottie Scheffler, at the 2022 Travelers Square to prepare for the British Open in St Andrews (July 14-17). All five players – Schaeffler, No. 2 Rory McIlroy, No. 6 Patrick Cantlay, No. 9 Sam Burns, 11th seed Jordan Spieth — are also set to play in the Scottish Open from July 6-10. This week, they’ll be taking on Pete Dye’s short layout that yielded a lot of low scores, including Jim Furyk’s PGA Tour-58 record in the final round of the 2016 Travelers. Harris English defeated Kramer Hickok in the eighth round of the playoffs last year after both teams finished The match is at level 13 below par.

McIlroy, who followed his Canadian Open win two weeks ago with a T-5 at the US Open, is the 10-1 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest 2022 flyer golf tournament prospect. Schaeffler (11-1), Cantlay (16-1), Burns (18-1), Xander Shaveli (20-1) and Spieth (25-1) are also among the favorites for the Travelers Championship 2022. Before you lock in your picks in The 2022 Travelers Championship or making any PGA Tour predictions, you have to see what golf expert Sal Johnson has to say.

The respected golfer has been in the game for many years and knows what it takes to win the PGA Tour.

And in last week’s selections for the 2022 US Open, he beat Matt Fitzpatrick in Brooklyn. “He’s very close to putting it all together and winning his first PGA Tour,” Johnson said. “What better place to do that than on a track where he won the 2013 Amateur Award?”

Fitzpatrick relied on his knowledge of course and irresistible nature to spread the Final Round 68 to beat the Masters Scheffler champion and many of the Tour’s best players. It was the Englishman’s first PGA Tour title, and Johnson saw it coming.

The expert also knows what is needed to win at TPC River Highlands. Before the Travelers last year, Harris ranked English as one of his top competitors. “The course is good for his match,” Johnson said, noting that he was close to finishing third at the 2021 US Open at Torrey Pines.

Prior to the PGA Championship, Johnson predicted that if Thomas performed his shots, he could definitely win. Thomas spent his best week of the season on the Greens, taking over 1.5 hits to finish second on the field. Results? He defeated Will Xalatores in a playoff to win his second Wanamaker Cup.

In his previous set of predictions for SportsLine, Johnson was a Schaeffler finish and claimed the Masters title for the third time in four years. Anyone who follows Johnson chooses their own path.

Now Johnson, the “Inside the PGA Tour” senior producer and longtime ABC Sports producer of golf who has worked with Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, has released his picks for the 2022 High-Trust Travelers Championship (see tickets at StubHub). The picks of the founder of, the world’s largest golf statistics database, will surely surprise you. You can only see them on SportsLine.

Top Picks for the 2022 Travelers Championship

Simply put, the golf statistician knows the numbers indicate McIlroy’s success. The Northern Irish have been hitting it like no other for the past few years and are starting to see results. He racked up two wins this season and finished in the top ten in all three majors. He has seven Top 10 in 11 Tour events overall and comes with a lot of momentum. The 33-year-old still crushes the ball, ranks third in driving distance (319.1 yards), and hits it straight enough (110 in accuracy, 10th in overall driving) to compete this weekend in Hartford.

The expert also knows Burns has a reputation for misguided driving, but that shouldn’t get in the way this week. The course is forgiving, and the 25-year-old is 115th in accuracy from a tee but ranks 30th in overall driving, so he hits it straight enough. He hits lasers on the greens (5th in the regulation) and breaks the level as much as anyone (5th on parity breaks), so he can pass the River Highlands. He’s racked up three wins and a runner-up this season, and he’s improved each time at the Travelers. He was 43rd in 2019, finished 24th the following year, and was 13th in 2021.
