Sam Hunt in Season of New Beginnings.
Weeks after the birth of his baby daughter, Hunt is releasing his new single, “Water Under the Bridge.” Hunt co-wrote “Water Under the Bridge” with Chris LaCourte, Shane McNally, and Josh Osborne. The rhythm-packed track is a nostalgic look back at the light day of youth.
Lyrics include: “This muddy river, it was rolling.” We didn’t care where to go. We made it, we didn’t know it. We were young, stupid, and so full of it. Broken bottles and graffiti, beer and girls and pop-up carts. Love was fun and life was easy. Now it’s just water under the bridge.”
“Water Under the Bridge” is a follow-up to Hunt’s latest chart “23,” which he also wrote with LaCorte, McAnally and Osborne. The song “23” is Hunt’s eighth #1 hit and is included on his album “Southside”, which is also home to the #1 songs “Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90s”, “Kinfolks” and “Hard To Forget”. “

2022 has been an unforgettable year so far for Hunt.
Earlier this month, he told an audience at the Ryman Auditorium that he had recently had “a baby girl named Lucy Lou.”
“I think being here, in the music business and out on the road, kind of hardened my heart,” Hunt said. “My heart is definitely a lot harder in many ways since I left that little town. It’s amazing how that little girl melted it all overnight two weeks ago. I’ve felt so much gratitude for the past two weeks. I just want to say here on the Ryman stage how much I am Grateful to be a part of country music for the past 10 years.”
Hunt and his wife had a turbulent year before the baby was born. Fowler filed for divorce twice – alleging inappropriate marital conduct and adultery – earlier in the year. The recording is how news of Lucy’s impending arrival was discovered. The couple eventually reconciled, and Fowler asked the court to reject her divorce application again.
Hunt opened up about the baby to Country Countdown USA before she arrived, explaining that he took some time to be with her and that he and his wife wanted to meet their little daughter before naming her.
“I haven’t talked about this, but I have a little girl on the way,” Hunt said. “I have a baby coming in eight weeks. I was banned for two months at the end of May and early June. Really, this year is about that big news in my life.”
He said he also collects advice from his famous friends who have had children, including Russell Dickerson, whose son was born in 2020.
“I saw Russell Dickerson a few weeks ago; we talked about fatherhood. I tried to pick his brain,” Hunt said. “Over the past four or five years, I’ve had a lot of friends who have had kids. So, I feel ready for it.”
The new and bachelor kid won’t be the only new addition to Hunt’s life this year – he’s also expecting a new album.
“I was able to write some songs in 2020,” he explained. “I have three or four songs recorded. During the summer I imagine I will put out some songs and hope the album will be finished later this year.”
