Lakers draft pick 2022: When do you pick Los Angeles? The full list of NBA draft picks

The Lakers began their 2021-22 campaign with dreams of the championship. Their season quickly turned into a nightmare.

Despite a roster of several players from the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team, Los Angeles finished 33-49 overall and failed to secure a spot on the NBA Playoffs or Play-In Tournament. Feeling the need for a change, the Lakers split from Frank Vogel and replaced him with Darvin Hamm, who previously served as the Lakers’ assistant coach during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

Los Angeles is still in a winning position now, so they will be looking for players who can match LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. Perhaps Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka will find an immediate shareholder Thursday night.

Where is Los Angeles in order of enlistment? Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft.

Lakers draft pick 2022: When do you pick Los Angeles?

Entering draft day, the Lakers did not have a selection in the 2022 NBA draft. The Pelicans have their first-round pick because he was included in the Anthony Davis trade.

Here is a draft of the assets that were sent from Los Angeles to New Orleans as part of that deal:

  • 2019: Choice No. 4
  • 2021: Round 1 (protected for numbers 8-30, unprotected in 2022)
  • 2023: First round swap rights (unprotected)
  • 2024: First-round pick (unprotected, deferred option until 2025)

However, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski stated on Thursday that the Lakers received the 35th pick from the Orlando Magic.

This confirms a report from Bleacher Report’s Jake Fisher earlier in the week who noted that they are “widely known to pursue” the second-round pick in this year’s draft.

Lakers 2022 NBA draft order

Lakers project needs

  • 3D wings: Davis and Westbrook are poor 3-point shooters. James could be streaky. If this trio is to succeed, the Lakers must add players who can give their stars more space to create the offensive side and take on the difficult tasks on the defensive end.
  • Front Court Depth: Davis missed more than half of the season. James played in 56 matches. The Lakers can’t assume these guys will be healthy, so they should try to snag another big guy who can devour some front-court minutes.
